Midi Dress, Boots, and Jacket

Wear These 3 Boots With Your Midi Dress

I’m not going to lie; boots & midi dresses might be one of my favorite combinations!

It can seem unlikely at first that you can wear boots with a midi dress but I promise you, YOU CAN.

If you had told me ten years ago that I would fall in love with the “midi” length in dresses and skirts I would have laughed in your face.

I was very attached to my short flirty dresses and high heels.

Then I had my son, dun dun duuuunnnnn.

Plot twist!

A colleague made a comment while I was pregnant that I ”wouldn’t be able to strut around in my short dresses anymore” and I was like nooo.

Funny how kids change you right?

I had a crazy rambunctious boy and I was lucky enough to be able to stay home with him for four years.

We had four years of crawling around on the floor playing cars and chasing each other around the kitchen island.

Not to mention lots of carrying him over my shoulder kicking and screaming because he doesn’t want to leave the playground.

Sigh.

I wouldn’t change those amazing and sometimes extremely exhausting years for the world and I miss them every day.

Needless to say, my colleague was right. Short dresses & heels were not practical choices when you have a small wild animal child.

Giving up dresses forever wasn’t appealing either because dresses are more flattering for my pear body shape.

Enter, the midi dress. Ta Daaaaa.

Ok, maybe it wasn’t THAT dramatic but I realized I could still wear dresses. I just needed the hemline to be a bit longer.

No one wants to bend over to pick up their kiddo and show everyone their under bits, right?

Although I did recently make a beautiful floral one for the Rachel + Rebecca Shop!

With it’s long but not long length, the midi dress can be a bit confusing to style, especially when it’s a little (or a lot) chilly out.

In the spirit of that here are:

3 Boots To Wear With A Midi Dress:

These are my 3 favorite types of boots to wear in many occasions but especially when it comes to midi dresses.

Midi dress with booties

Ankle Boots/Booties

I love me a good bootie – haha my son thinks bootie is a hysterical word – course he doesn’t mean shoes when he says it. 😜

Anyway, booties are fun to wear and come in all shapes and sizes! I love these I found years ago at Kohl’s. I have looked for them since in black but haven’t seen them, boo.

Don’t you hate when you find something you love but never see it again?

Anyway, I found some similar and super cute booties for you to check out for yourself so you can achieve a similar look.

Boho booties with buckles

Slouchy booties

Western booties

Some awesome shooties as a bonus!

Midi Dress, Denim Jacket, White Boots

Knee High Boots

I love me a good knee high boot and when these white ones started circling around I knew right away I needed them in my life.

There is a picture of my mom when she was 15 and in the colorguard (in the sixties) and she had these amazing knee high white boots on.

I think I’ve been obsessed with having knee high white boots ever since!

Obviously you don’t have to wear white knee high boots, just pick a neutral color that will go best with your dress.

You can’t go wrong with a classic pointy or almond toe, I think it makes the legs look even longer.

MIdi dress with OTK boots and moto vest

Over The Knee Boots

Another boot obsession of mine is the classic and always in style IMHO over the knee boot.

One of my favorite outfits – in addition to this one of course – is to wear black OTK boots, black tights, and a short(ish) black dress or skirt. Super cute.

Back to this outfit!

Choose a color that matches your dress or that coordinates seamlessly to keep the outfit cohesive.

Although I love high heels (remember how I used to wear them all of the time) the many years of wearing them took a toll on my feet.

So these days I look for heels that are 2.5” or lower just to make sure I can walk in them without dying.

OTK boots look great with a midi dress because they sort of disappear underneath the dress, making your legs look even longer.

I found these boots on Amazon of all places and they’ve been great!

How Do You Style Boots With Midi Dresses?

Hopefully by now you have some ideas on boots you can wear with your midi dresses.

Now, how should you style your midi dress and boot outfit?

Seeing that you are wearing boots with your midi dress, it’s probably not super warm outside.

Therefore, I like to add an upper layer to my midi dress. Here are some ways I styled my dress:

Midi Dress, Boots, and Jacket

Booties (Similar Here) – Dress (Similar Here) – Military Jacket

After looking at the colors in the dress, I realized there was a green color in there that would match the military inspired jacket I made for the Rachel + Rebecca Shop. I originally made it as a vest and then recently added sleeves.

I love pairing feminine flowy items with more structured edgy ones. So fun!

Midi Dress, White Button Down, White Boots

White Boots – Dress (Similar Here) – White Button Down (Similar Here)

Adding a white button down over a dress is a bit unexpected but lends a fun casual vibe.

Adding a denim jacket instead of the white button down gives off a great country vibe that goes well with the boots!

Midi Dress, Denim Jacket, White Boots

White Boots – Dress (Similar Here) – Denim Jacket

Midi dress with boots and moto vest

OTK Boots – Dress (Similar Here) – Moto Vest (Similar Here)

Keeping with my feminine & flowy with edgy more structured pieces I paired the OTK boots and dress with a fun moto vest! I’ve had this vest forever and often forget to wear it but I really love it with this dress!

Conclusion: 3 Boots To Wear With A Midi Dress

Well, those are the 3 boots you can wear with a midi dress. Of course you could wear other types of boots but these are my favorite combinations!

Let’s recap them again:

  1. Ankle boots or booties
  2. Knee high boots
  3. Over the knee boots

Now it’s your turn! Have you tried wearing any of these boots with your midi dress or do you have any other ideas on how to wear them? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time beautiful,
