How To Wear All Black Without Looking Boring
Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.

My mom has mastered the wear all black look.
I used to give her a lot of sh** about it when I was younger.
Like, ”mom you need to wear more color”
“Why do you always wear black”
“Don’t you get bored wearing all black?”
In time – with age comes wisdom, right? – I realized she was brilliant to wear all black.
Many people think if you wear all black you will look ”emo” or ”goth” but that is not true. If you are going for those looks (and there is nothing wrong with being either emo or goth btw) then you can absolutely achieve that by wearing all black but there is much more to those looks than that. But I digress.
Wearing all black is a timeless, classic style that, if done right, is guaranteed to make you look chic and effortlessly fashionable.
Seriously.
Today I’m going to give you some easy tips to ensure you can wear all black to achieve that effortless chic, dare I say Parisian, look you’ve been dreaming of.
How To Wear All Black
It’s All About Texture
Instead of thinking of wearing black as just wearing a black top with black pants and black shoes, think of it in terms of textures.
I love black faux leather leggings. You can pair these with a long top, a short dress, a cool sweater, etc. etc. I chose to pair these with the faux leather & lace black dress from the Rachel + Rebecca shop. The little black dress has a beautiful black lace skirt with hand quilted faux leather with a gold zipper trim around the neckline.
Having the different textures keeps the look from looking boring. Top it off with some stylish black heels and your sophisticated & chic all black look is ready for your next date night!

Feminine + Edgy = Perfection
Another great way to wear all black without looking boring is to mix feminine flowy pieces with more hard edgy pieces. The flowy pieces are comfortable and help to take the edge off of the edgy pieces making them feel more modern and of the moment.
For this look I paired a oversized flowy black dress ( it is sooo comfy) with shiny patent leather riding boots. I chose opague tights but you could also do a sheer tight with a fun pattern as well.
To make it look a little more dressy you could pair this look with a jeweled black kimono.

Casual + Cool = Rockstar
Another favorite pairing of mine is pairing black jeans with a cool graphic tee & a blazer.
To make the look more glamorous, try adding a sparkly blazer and a red lip.
Side note: If you want to look more glamorous in anything – put on some red lipstick. Seriously, try it.
Sparkly black blazer not bringing the drama? Add a jeweled kimono instead.

Conclusion: How To Wear All Black Without Looking Boring
Ok, let’s recap what we’ve learned:
- Think about texture when picking out items for your all black outfit. Lace & faux leather look great together and bring more interest to your outfit than just having all the same texture.
- Pair feminine pieces with edgy pieces. Instead of just wearing a pretty black dress & heels (which definitely looks awesome) try adding something unexpected in there. Like some patent leather riding boots with that pretty dress. I love the juxtaposition of the hard & soft items together!
- Pair a cool graphic tee with some black jeans & a black blazer. I am obsessed with graphic tees! They are perfect for many situations. Adding a blazer (bonus points if it’s sparkly!) or a jeweled kimono takes the look from casual to cool. Try it!
