Margaret Maxi Dress | Featured Product
When I was pregnant, I wore maxi dresses every.single.day throughout my entire pregnancy. After that, I was like, I am never going to wear a maxi dress again.
However, as soon as I started designing my 2021 Fall/Winter Collection, I knew it needed a maxi dress. The theme of the collection is Edgy Bohemian and you can’t exactly have a bohemian collection without a maxi dress, ya know?
So, the Margaret Maxi Dress was born and, as they say, the rest is history. 😜
Margaret | The Design
Maxi dresses are an amazing addition to anyone’s wardrobe. They skim close to the bust and then flare out away from the body towards the floor. This creates a beautiful silhouette that is both flattering and forgiving.
I love the look of a deep v neckline so I knew I wanted to add one here. It adds a touch of sexy to an otherwise completely covered-up look. I also lowered the armhole to give your arms more room to move around.
I know some women prefer to wear things that aren’t too close to their body so I kept that in mind when designing this dress. The relaxed waist allows you to wear it just as it is for a more relaxed look or you can wear a belt to accentuate your waistline. I love options!
The “skirt” portion of the dress has gathers at the waistline giving it a bit of volume on the bottom, which increases the “flowy” factor. I raised the hem a tiny bit off the floor because I hate walking around barefoot or in sandals and tripping over the bottom of my dress! Does anyone else do that or is it just me?
Margaret | The Fabric
Usually, maxi dresses are made from a thin cotton fabric. Sometimes it will be a thin polyester blend of some sort as well. They are usually not lined and can be somewhat translucent in the sunlight.
Although I love those, because they are usually cheap, I wanted to create something more substantial that feels more luxurious. I found this beautiful floral chiffon fabric and fell in love. Chiffon is a very very lightweight fabric that is slinky and flowy. It is very see-through however so I made sure to add a lightweight fabric inside that is opaque. So, there is no worry about showing too much.
The result is a beautiful dress that is flowy and comfortable but also feels soft & luxurious. It is fun to wear and can easily be dressed up with heels, a fabulous belt, and a clutch. Or you can just throw on some sandals or flip-flops and head out the door.
Effortless glamour is my favorite.
Margaret Maxi Dress | Styling Ideas
The most important thing to remember when styling something that has a busy print is to let the print be the focal point. Keep everything else simple so that nothing competes with the print. Some are good at mixing prints but I tend to just keep things simple. It’s such a beautiful floral print, why not let it make an impact on its own?
Style Idea #1 | Dress + Belt + Sneakers + Sweater in coordinating color
Here’s a great fashion tip! When you have a colorful print that you want to be the focal point, use the colors of the print to guide you when choosing additional items (such as a sweater, belt, shoes, etc.) By sticking to the colors in the print you will create a look that is cohesive and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Style Idea #2 | Dress + Denim Jacket + Sneakers
Denim jackets are so chich when paired with dresses. This one is perfect for this dress because some of the flowers in the print are a light blue color similar to the color of the jacket. Pair with your comfy kicks and you are ready for a weekend stroll at the market. Or brunch. Maybe a walk in the park. Or…. you fill in the blank!
Style Idea #3 | Dress + Belt + T-Shirt + Boots
Here is a fun little twist on the maxi dress. Put a shirt of your choice (graphic tee would look cute too) on OVER your dress. Twist the T or knot it so it stays up around your waist and then put a belt on covering up the bottom of the shirt.
And Voila! Now you have a cute top with a maxi skirt! It’s always fun to wear things in unexpected ways!
How would you style this gorgeous maxi dress?
Until next time friend 💕
